Last summer's Michigan International Camporee was featured on the Michigan Magazine television show during the last week of December, 1997 and the first week of January, 1998 on different Michigan public television stations, on Channel 56 Detroit and on cable across Canada.
Around the border of this backpatch are the flags of all the countries that planned to send youth participants to the 1997 Michigan International Camporee. Clockwise starting at the top left corner, they are USA, Zimbabwe, Slovakia, Sierra Leone, Trinidad & Tobago, Canada, Ghana, Australia, Denmark, Uganda, Honduras, Hungary, Sweden, United Kingdom, Tanzania, Mexico, Romania, Switzerland, Netherlands Antilles, and Finland. The group from Sierra Leone was unable to come because the US embassy would not grant them visas and the funding source the Hondurans expected did not come through so they were unable to come. The other 18 countries with flags on the patch had youth participants at the camporee. We also benefited from having two young Scouters from Peru serve on our camporee staff.

Program: Swimming, rowing, canoeing, sailing, fishing, tubing, archery, and rifle and shotgun shooting, along with games and challenge activities, special theme activities relating to Michigan history, and opportunities for our international guests to share songs, games, and other Scouting activities from their countries.
